Overview

This module is about enhancing your decision-making and problem-solving abilities as a sport coach by using objective methods. We will explore the practical use of sports science methods relating to the objective measurement and analysis of performance demands in your sport. 
In this module you'll:

  • Explore the demands of your sport.
  • Develop your critical understanding of measurement and analyses of performance data.
  • Enhance your decision-making processes as a coach through more objective methods.
  • Consider the ethical basis of using data in sport.
  • Case studies will also be presented to illustrate how theory is applied to coaching practice.

Objectives

  • Demonstrate critical understanding of measurement and analysis of performance in sport;
  • Justify, through appraisal and synthesis of research, potential improvements to performance in relation to the demands of your sport;
  • Engage with critical thinking and problem-solving discussions.

Structure and content

This module explores performance from a holistic perspective, considering a wide range of theories and methods than can be applied in a broad coaching context.

Delivery and assessment

The module is a blended-learning one, including lectures, seminars, discussions and drop-ins.

The assessment will include submission of a case-study and associated learning tasks.
