Getting started and setting up your account

Type of accounts

The first point of consideration is whether you should set up your social media presence as a personal account, faculty, course or service account. Ask yourself if this will be promoting your own personal work, research and activities or a wider faculty or area (news, events, studies, job vacancies, industry news etc).

Naming convention

To maintain a consistent brand presence across social media, we ask that all new accounts set up follow the below naming conventions:

  • Account Name: University of Stirling – Faculty of [insert name of faculty/service] .
  • Handle: @UofStirling_[first name of faculty or service] e.g @UofStirling_catering, @UofStirling_FilmStudies).

Personal accounts

  • Please include full name and job title if applicable (e.g. professor, assistant professor) .
  • Please include an up-to-date headshot.
  • Provide a concise biography of who you are and the content that can be expected on your account.
  • Platform type.

In all instances when setting up a new social account, please inform the social media team at socialmedia@stir.ac.uk and please ensure you read in full the Universities staff-social-media-guidance document.
