Quality Enhancement and Standards Review (QESR)

A new national quality assurance and enhancement framework has been developed in Scotland which will launch in 2024-25. Academic years 2022-23 and 2023-24 have been structured as Phase 1 of the operation of the new framework with all Scottish Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) having both an Institutional Liaison Meeting (ILM) with their Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) Officer and a Quality Enhancement and Standards Review (QESR) during this phase.

The University’s QESR event took place in November 2023. The QESR confirmed confidence that the University “is making effective progress in continuing to monitor, review and enhance its higher education provision to enable effective arrangements to be in place for managing academic standards and the quality of the student learning experience”.

The QESR report and follow-up action plan

The report on the QESR was formally published on the QAA’s website on 31 January 2024, highlighting both areas of good practice and recommendations for action. View the report on the QAA website.

The University has developed a QESR follow-up action plan detailing the actions to address the recommendations made in the QESR report.
