Let's get started

The HR team will send you an electronic offer from HR Operations or via Adobe Echo Sign, which contains the following documents:

Induction

Our Induction Hub is an easy to navigate ‘one stop shop’ for key information to support your induction at Stirling. It delivers specific resources for Academic, Professional Services and Research staff, whilst also providing information on our Strategic Plan 2030, quick links and signposting.

You can access the Induction Hub here.

Inductions are led by your line manager within your Faculty/Service and can be supported with our induction checklist. You will also be required to complete some regulatory training modules available online. To further support staff inductions, eligible staff will receive an invitation to attend our ‘Setting up for Success’ induction event. The event explores our origins, our culture and values and the structure that supports these. It provides essential information about working at Stirling in an informal and welcoming environment.

Computer account and email

To access the University computers and set up your University e-mail you will need to discover your network account, using your employee number and date of birth. Information Services also provides other IT support and resources

Staff card

A University staff ID card (smartcard) is issued to all employees. Your staff ID identifies you as a member of staff, allows use of library facilities and simplifies the use of the printing devices. Find out more about your staff ID card. We require a photo for your staff ID; please upload via the portal. Once you have done this and your details have been checked you will receive and email from our Information Services team. You can then pick up your staff ID from the Library.

Car Parking

Parking charges apply Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:00 all year round, excluding Christmas and New Year's Day. Staff can pay for parking with an annual parking permit or individual parking sessions using the RingGO App.

An application for a parking permit can be made on your first day using the University portal. You may have to pay for parking for your first day or two until you receive your permit.

You can find out more about parking here.

University information and campus facilities

The University website is a great source of information, you may find it useful to explore the About section initially for an overview, it includes information about our structure, location and strategic plan.

Probation

Normally new staff members are required to complete a probationary period (as detailed within your contract), to assess their suitability to undertake the post for which they have been employed. Subject to a satisfactory review from the relevant line manager, the appointment is normally confirmed at the end of this period. In some cases, it may be necessary for the probationary period to be extended and a further review conducted prior to confirmation of appointment.  Further information can be found on the forms or policies and guidance pages

Achieving Success

Achieving Success is a process that provides every member of staff the opportunity to discuss their role, development needs, and every day contributions to their school or department strategic objectives. It allows time for reflection on key achievements, and for planning and objective setting for the coming year. It also allows managers to share directly with staff key priorities, and to help align activities to meet these aims. If you are a current member of staff, you can find out more about Achieving Success here
