The Art Collection

The Art Collection aims to make art and culture a part of everyday life at the University. We enable exchanges between art, research and teaching through an active programme of exhibitions and public engagement events. The integration of art and culture into University life inspires people, supports wellbeing and develops creative connections between staff, students and the local community.

Causes and opportunities

Explore below for more detailed information about specific causes and opportunities provided by the Art Collection that align with your values and interests.

Art acquisition

Support the growth of the Art Collection by contributing to art acquisition which focuses on collecting Scottish Contemporary Art, showcasing the finest expressions of the vibrant Scottish art scene. Your support empowers us to acquire or commission new works, shaping a collection that becomes an integral part of the campus experience and enriches the cultural tapestry of the University for students, staff, and visitors alike.

Artist-in-residence

The yearly artist-in-residence programme sponsors an artist to immerse themselves at the University of Stirling, dedicating time to research and develop their artistic practice. This focused endeavour enables artists to create new work that is deeply influenced by the University's activities, fostering connections among the arts, researchers, and students. Explore the experiences of previous artists in residence.

Conservation

Dedicated to the preservation of artworks for future generations, our efforts include routine conservation work and more extensive projects. Contributions support consultations with conservation specialists, ongoing store renovations, and digitization initiatives. This ensures enhanced accessibility to collections for researchers and visitors, securing the long-term preservation of our artistic heritage.

Outreach programme

The outreach programme enables the University to connect with the local community while bringing arts and culture to diverse and 'hard-to-reach' audiences. Previous projects included respite sessions for caregivers, collaborations with community justice groups, and engagement with schools and colleges. Donations to this fund will acquire materials and involve local artists, nurturing the creativity and confidence of our community.
