Colin has led developments in stewardship and responsible asset management for over twenty years at Standard Life Investments and Baillie Gifford, and 14 years at Hermes Investment Management. Colin joined Hermes in 2002, and in 2005 he became CEO of Hermes Equity Ownership Services.
Colin has drafted guidelines for corporate disclosure on social, environmental and ethical matters, which have been widely adopted by the UK investment industry.
Amongst many industry roles, Colin is an associate member of the Chartered Financial Analysts Institute, the UK Society of Investment Professionals, and Chair of the Social Stock Exchange. He was also an author of UN Principles for Responsible Investment and its first Chair.
Studying investment management at Stirling helped me successfully achieve the tricky transition from historian to investment manager. I very much valued the insights provided by the academic staff, which assisted me in understanding the investment industry and in preparing the ground for my ongoing mission to reform it.
