Research themes
Our research themes directly link to major initiatives of the UK and EU research councils. Much of the research undertaken in the Faculty, and in collaboration with other Faculties, relates to complex systems and is quantitative.
To fully realise the potential of our research centres and to develop unifying research and teaching activities across the Faculty we are continuing to invest in developing new research in Complex Systems that will identify key issues in 21st century science, emergent properties of multi-level systems and develop quantitative modelling, data mining and e-Science capabilities to address such issues.
Our research covers the following themes:
- Science in culture
- Food security and sustainability
- Basic bioscience underpinning health
- Animal health
- Next generation healthcare
- Digital economies
- Health and well being
- Understanding individual behaviour
- Resilience, repair and replacement
- Biodiversity
- Environmental pollution and health
- Earth systems science
- Sustainable use of natural resources
- Natural hazards
- Environmental change
