UK Research and Innovation: UK and India partnership grows to over £300 million
Research projects funded by the UK Research Councils, including IMAQulate, are part of a £300 million research partnership between the UK and India.
IMAQulate MSc research presented at the World Aquaculture Society’s Aquaculture Asia-Pacific conference
University of Stirling 2016-17 MSc student Umi Salmah, who completed her research project through the IMAQulate project, presented her findings at the World Aquaculture Society’s Aquaculture Asia-Pacific conference. Umi found interesting results from raising shrimp in biofloc systems – her findings are currently under peer review and we will share these once they are published.
Andhra Pradesh nursing phase completion
The extended nursing phase of our Andhra Pradesh trial is now complete, and the shrimp have been successfully moved to growout ponds to complete their lifecycle.
The shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) in this trial were treated with various probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics or biofloc (as well as an untreated control group) through an extended nursing phase in order to determine the health and survival impacts that these treatments have on the animals. They will be untreated throughout the growout phase to determine whether these effects are also visible in later life stages.
The trial is being conducted in Ananda Group facilities, and we are pleased to be working with this organisation for our research. University of Stirling MSc student Riddhiman Saha is assisting with the trials.
