The Stirling and Clackmannanshire City Region Deal is a £214 million investment in the future of the region, unlocking potential to drive economic growth, productivity and prosperity.
An investment of £90.2 million from the UK and Scottish Governments will be matched by up to £123.8 million from regional partners. This initial funding has potential to leverage additional private investment in excess of £640 million over the next 10 to 15 years, delivering more than 5,000 new jobs across a range of sectors.
Research and innovation is central to achieving this vision. Working closely with partners, the University can understand the challenges businesses are facing and pioneer new solutions, creating high-value jobs and supporting greater productivity.
The City Region Deal provides an investment package of more than £46 million in University-led research. A £17 million investment from the UK Government will build on the University’s internationally-renowned Institute of Aquaculture to develop a National Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Hub, reinforcing the UK’s position at the forefront of this expanding sector. As the world seeks out cleaner, greener ways of working, Scotland’s International Environment Centre, funded through £22 million from Scottish Government and £5 million from the UK Government, will create a global exemplar of sustainable and inclusive models of growth. A further £7.25 million of UK Government investment will be established as an Intergenerational Living Innovation Hub, building on the University’s global reputation for ageing and dementia research.
This investment in world-class research infrastructure will enable University of Stirling researchers to further tackle some of the world’s most pressing problems, building on an established track record and placing innovation at the heart of a coordinated drive for sustainable, inclusive growth.
